On The Road Again

March 28, 2009

Well, I’m somewhere between Tucson and Phoenix as I write this (92 Miles from Tucson to be exact). While I enjoyed my visit back to California, I am looking forward to returning to the people and the kids back in Copperas Cove. It was quite a productive trip. It really helped me to realize how amazing God is at healing old wounds and how He can patch old relationships and make them new.

This trip, while random and abrupt, ended up showing even more of God’s grace to me. I’ve learned there is no end to His grace or mercy. Just when you think there can’t possibly anymore, He shows you something that shows there is more.

Oh, and my Grandpa came through all his surgery stuff alright. Everything went well and is looking good. I’ll update everyone when he has his pacemaker surgery.

I hope everyone is having a blessed weekend!

California Trip-Update 2

March 25, 2009

My Grandpa’s surgery was successful and he is doing well. Thanks for all the prayer and support from everyone, especially those back at North Pointe Church of Copperas Cove. You guys have been awesome!

I also spent lunch time with the AVCS kids one last time (with the school’s permission of course). I again want to thank all those still involved with the school for the opportunity to be able to share some time with everyone. I pray that things will continue to look bright for the school.

I’ve decided there are some things that I don’t miss about California. Here is the list.

1. Traffic

2. Hemet

3. Traffic

4. Gas Prices

5. Traffic

6. How rude people are

7. Did I mention Traffic?

8. Did I mention Hemet?

OK, now to the things I like (and miss) about California when I am in Texas

1. Family

2. Friends

3. Mountains (seriously, Central Texas is flat…really flat)

4. IN-N-OUT (which is probably closer to number 1)

Well, that’s it for tonight. Still more to come.

California Trip-Update 1

March 24, 2009

Greetings all!

I’ve spent some time reconnecting with people here. Today I stopped by AVCS and had a good time visiting with the kids and staff. It is really great how God works to reconcile hearts when people are willing. God has really been good to mend all the hurt and frustration that went on (a lot that was perpetuated by this blog). It’s great to see we can put it all behind us and move forward with the grace of God.

I also stopped in on Awana. I was so excited to see that the program is still growing and still making such an impact. If anyone from the program reads this, double kudos to all of you. The kids seem to be enjoying it. You are all touching lives and reaching young hearts for Christ. May God continue to bless your work in this little valley.

Another day tomorrow. I will find out how my grandpa is doing after his heart surgery. Thanks for those who have already been praying.

In Christ,

Mr. Josh

California Bound

March 23, 2009

Greetings all!

As I write this, I am just outside Las Cruces, NM on I-10 on my way to SoCal. There are a lot of reasons I am visiting this week which I am not going to go into detail on. Just wanted to update you all that I will be in Anza for this week. Yes, this decision was rather sudden, but really, I am not staying. I am looking forward to getting back to Cove as soon as possible.

More to come!

Today is Pi Day

March 14, 2009

Pi day? Why would I say that? Well, for those that don’t know, the first 3 numbers of the neverending pi string are 3.14. Thus, this means that March 14th would be displayed 3-14. Many teachers (especially math teachers) celebrate the day by bringing Pies in for their students. It’s rather interesting too, that a pie just happens to be circular which fits the whole “pi” theme. I am taking a different approach however. Since this is Saturday, I won’t be seeing any of the kids or students I work with so I decided I would look at some different “3:14″ verses.

1 Kings

How about 1 Kings 3:14. “So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” We know this verse is talking about the king of Israel, but it also makes practical sense for us too. After all, if we keep the statues and commands of God, won’t we be healthy and better able to take on the challenges of our time? By following His commandments, we steer clear of sin which leads to a path of destruction. This verse is just simply saying that by following God, we avoid that path.

Proverbs

While talking about wisdom, Proverbs 3:14 says “For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold.” The previous verse, Proverbs 3:13 says: “Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding;”. We know that true wisdom and knowledge comes from God. Proverbs 3:5-6 shows us this: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.” When we acknowledge God as the ultimate source for wisdom and understanding, the benefits we receive are better than “silver….and fine gold”

1 John

You would think it would be easy to love people within the church. Sadly, it’s not always the case. I’ve experienced this in my own life. Yet, 1 John 3:14 warns: “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.” This verse was one that convicted me during my struggles over the last half of 2008. This isn’t talking about people you meet on the street or those who do not know God. It’s talking about members of the church! And not just your church, the church in general. Those who are followers of Christ and call themselves Christian. I thought a long time on this verse and realize it’s broader implications. We have to love the brethren. Otherwise, why would the world want anything to do with Christianity if we can’t love eachother? Colossians 3:14  says: “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” So, if we learn to love eachother and others, we have put on the “bond of perfection”. That’s something we should all take to heart.

1 Peter

1 Peter 3:14 says: “But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” I’ve talked to many who said they have stopped believing because it’s to hard or that things didn’t get better. Perhaps that is because often times the church preaches a sugar coated, feel good message. The problem with this is when the going gets tough, the weak get going. They are misled into thinking that God is going to wave a magic wand and everything is going to be wonderful. But do we dare expect that here? It is true that we know that eternity will be wonderful and lovely and peaceful. But here on this earth, we have not right to expect such. If God did not spare Christ, the most perfect person to walk the earth, from suffering, how dare we expect Him to lift suffering from our own lives. That doesn’t mean we won’t have joy. After all, if you joy is in Christ, then you have the ultimate joy. Sufferings, while not pleasant, would not alter your joy in knowing that God is there and never changing. Just take the words of Ecclesiastes 3:14 which say: “I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it,  And nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him.” Isn’t it nice to know that we have the power of God, who is there forever, behind us? It is comforting to me to know that “nothing can be taken from it”. God does not let the meddlings of the world take away from His plan whether that be His plan of salvation or His plan for your life.

I hope everyone has a blessed day and weekend.

Facebook Import Fix

March 8, 2009

I finally fixed a problem I had with Facebook not importing this blog properly. However, the initial re-importing of the blog caused it to randomize the order. So, if you want to see the actual blog roll, you’ll have to visit http://anzanite.wordpress.com (or Anzanite.com–whenever I can get the domain working again).

UPDATE: Currently, only Google Chrome can access the blog via anzanite.com. Internet Explorer and FireFox continue to forward to a default page….hoping I can resolve this problem soon…

P.S. Apologies to the FeedBlitz users who receive the email updates. Hopefully it sent you one email with all the updates for the day. If not, let me know so I can change the FeedBlitz settings. If you have any other RSS feed reader, access the rss feed at http://anzanite.wordpress.com/feed/rss.
